Details

From enduro runs to steep all-mountain terrain, the new Reign has swagger to spare. More control, more confidence.

With updated geometry and suspension technology, the latest version of Reign is more capable and confident than ever. The reengineered ALUXX SL aluminum frameset is designed to optimize its 27.5 wheels, giving you more control on the most aggressive terrain. Its trunnion-mount Maestro rear suspension system offers 160mm of smooth, active travel and now features the Advanced Forged Composite upper rocker arm, which is lighter and stronger than the previous version. Updated geometry with a longer cockpit, a tapered OverDrive steerer tube design, and air or coil shock-compatible mounts are all part of the package, making Reign the perfect companion for rowdy trail-riding adventures or weekend enduros.

Comments:

I initially was going to get the Trance X1 [$] bike. It was a really good deal with all that it offered. I learned in the shop however that the reign 1 was better suited for the type of riding that I like; all mountain more than xc. First the bike rides excellent. Usually I build my bikes, but I decided to take the plunge and buy one in the shop. It could use a few upgrades, but all in all it climbs descent (I hate climbing) but descends like a downhill bike. I've ridden it twice, both times at La Costa. The second ride was my true test as I bombed the Nascar run. It handled every drop, switchback and rock section with ease and jumped quite well. It really shines in the corners. I really like the suspension. I will probably upgrade the front derailleur, crankset, handle bars, grips and wheelset. This isn't necessity, just a want. Bicycle Warehouse crew in Vista is the Best. Knowledgeable, Good Deals, Great brands, I'm satisfied. I'm excited to take it to Utah next summer to see how it handles the stuff I grew with.

Great bike! I tried some other all-mountain brands and none felt as good climbing and desending as the Giant.

Tested Santa Cruz Blur LT2, Santa Cruz Nomad, Specialized Enduro SL, Ibis Mojo, Giant Trance. Out of all of these Nomad suited my needs the best, long travel, chuckable, tackle anything and ride up hill. Giant Reign is 98% as good as a Nomad, maybe not the name if you live in Santa Cruz, however costs half what a Nomad does and lighter! 29.75lb v 31.5lb for a Nomad with AM SRAM9 kit. My friend after test ride of Nomad bought one and we ride regularly together. Anything the Nomad can do the Reign can do. At this point it's all down to the rider.

    Comments:

When you get the right air pressure combo on the suspension for your weight, it rides like a sofa! Biggest con is that it is a bit heavy, but remember its built to bounce off boulders and it does it without trouble or breaking. I love the lockout on the front and rear suspention to make it feel like a rigid when on the street, and when on trail you can lockout the rear to ride like a hardtail, and with flip of a lever you make it a squishy sofa for downhill. Hayes brakes 7" front 6" back stop me, 260lbs rider, and 35 lb bike. 300 lbs of mass at 30MPH and the brakes don't seem to care, just get a bit hot!
